A Tallahassee jury has awarded $269,810 to a local barber who was wrongfully arrested after deputies mistakenly identified sugar as crack cocaine. The jury found that the Leon County Sheriff’s Office lacked probable cause and that the actions of deputies caused damages to the plaintiff.
Attorney Paul Aloise, representing the victim alongside co-counsel, welcomed the verdict as a step toward justice after a lengthy legal battle. The case highlights concerns surrounding wrongful arrests and proper law enforcement procedures.
